PRINCIPAL

 

The current principal has been a longstanding member of staff. Mrs. Dorothy Samuda took over the reign of principal after the retirement of Mr. Samuel Watson in September 1999. Below is a brief profile of Mrs. Samuda.

 

 

 

DOROTHY SPENCE-SAMUDA

 

Dorothy Samuda was born in the parish of Westmoreland.  A graduate of Bethlehem Teachers’ College in the hills of St. Elizabeth, she was the recipient of the academic prize.

 

In September 1974 she joined the teaching staff of St. Elizabeth Technical High School as a teacher of English.  During that year she also taught Religious Education to Grades 7 and 8 students.  Over the years she taught English to every grade in the school re Grades 7 – 11 but soon concentrated on Grades 10 & 11 only, preparing students for A.E.B and Cambridge G.C.E. examinations.

 

She has been involved in several areas of school life and was promoted to the position of Senior Teacher three years after joining the staff.

 

        Some areas in which she served include: -

(i)             Staff advisor for Campus Life

(ii)          Member of the Guidance Committee

(iii)       Member of the Examination and Time Table Committees

(iv)       Staff Advisor to Prefect Body and Student Council Representatives

(v)          Member of the committee responsible for school functions eg. Valedictory Services and Graduation exercises.

(vi)       Head of the English Department

 

She is an Honours graduate of the University of the West Indies, Mona (Bachelor in Education) majoring in the Teaching of English

 

Mrs. Samuda was elevated to the post of Acting Vice Principal in September 1991. At the end of that year she was appointed to that position.

 

In September 1999, she became Acting Principal and has recently been informed that she has been confirmed in that position.

 

As a devoted Christian (an Anglican) Mrs. Samuda is actively involved in church activities.  She holds the following positions.

 

(i)             Lay Reader (Known as Lay Preacher in some other denominations)

(ii)          Enrolling member (President) of the Mothers’ Union, a female organization within the church.

(iii)       Rector’s Warden (deputizing for the Priest in his absence as far as the affairs of the church are concerned.)

(iv)       Alternate Representative to Synod.

(v)          Church Secretary

 

Other involvement – Public Relations Officer for Ashwood Drive Neighbourhood Watch.

Mrs. Samuda is married to Robin Samuda and is the mother of two children.

 

Roberto, a graduate of the University of Technology, Jamaica.  He is a Computer Programmer/Analyst.

 

Teika – a final year student at the University of the West Indies, Mona – majoring in Economics and Management Studies.
