Fortieth Anniversary Celebrations

The St. Elizabeth Technical High School celebrated its fortieth birthday during the week of October 7 - 13. A number of past students joined in the celebration with current students, faculty, past principals and community members in celebrating this memorable occasion.

The week of celebration began with a church service at The Anglican Church at Gilnock. Although this event was threatened by the impending presence of hurricane Iris, the event went off well. The message was delivered by past student the Rev. Ralston Nembhard who flew in from New York especially for the occasion. After the service, Past students laid a wreath on the grave of the late past Principal John Pottinger. Lunch was then served in the school's auditorium.

On Monday October 8, Past Students conducted devotions. Among those present at the devotions was the first Principal of STETHS, Mr. Edmund G. Roper, his wife and son as well as a few students who were apart of the first batch of students to enter STETHS. The Friends of STETHS International Inc presented two scholarships in honor of Mr. Roper to two present students. After devotions, past students stuck around and visited various classes where they gave motivational talk to the present students. In the afternoon, past and present students and faculty went through a mix and mingle exercise playing indoor games.

The Industrial Arts, Home Economics and Visual Arts Departments all show cased the skills of the STETHS students with work produced by them. Visit the PHOTO PAGE for some photographs of the exhibit. There was also a display of various memorabilia. Among this display were photographs from various events in the school's history. RJR's Hot Line with host Barbara Gloudon was also aired from the school. On Wednesday, the Gleaner also published a feature supplement on STETHS. Special souvenir items such as caps, shirts and magazines were also on sale and are still available. Those who wish to purchase any of these items may contact their various chapters or the school at stethsadmin@cwjamaica.com
